Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health, has a Postdoctoral Fellow (and one visiting scholar expected) position available immediately by the support of a three-year project.


The Wang Laboratory of Human Environmental Epigenomes at Johns Hopkins University has been pioneering with their developed ChIP-seq method and other deep sequencing methods (for example, RNA-seq and BS-seq) to determine how epigenetic codes (DNA methylation patterns and combinatorial patterns of simultaneously occurring histone modifications) are established and how this establishment goes awry in response to environmental exposure in early embryos, therefore contributing to the pathogenesis of disease in adulthood. In other words, we are interested to unveil the mechanistic insights of developmental origins of adult disease.

Fellow/Scholar has chances to get training in chromatin biology/genomic imprinting/DNA methylation. Current research efforts in the lab are centered on:

1) How DNA methylation patterns control genomic imprinting, gene transcription, and genome stability. Exemplified projects include:

(a) Distinct roles of DNMT1-dependent and –independent patterns in the genome of mouse ES cells (under revision);
(b) Characterization of environmental exposure-changed expression of novel imprinted genes during early embryonic development in the contribution to the pathogenesis of adult diseases (Barker hypothesis).

2) How histone modifying complexes modulate three layers of chromatin (histone acetylation/methylation, nucleosome positioning, and exchange of histone variant H2A.Z/H3.3) to restore repressive chromatin after transcription elongation.

Candidates with strong background in biochemistry/molecular biology such as ChIP (with publications to validate) and/or mouse studies are expected. We also expect that you are highly self-motivated and can critically think your research projects. Experience in epigenomic techniques would be a plus.
